First own home

In 1954, the Schmidt family buys a townhouse in the Othmarschen district from »Neue Heimat«, a trade union housing association. After several moves since the end of the war, this will be the final stop before the Schmidts settle permanently in Langenhorn at the end of 1961. Many elements for which the home in Neubergerweg later becomes known can already be seen here: an open living area, modern design furnishings with Scandinavian touches and the particular mix of art and bric-a-brac. The generous assortment of house plants is undoubtedly a hallmark of nature lover Loki Schmidt; the botanic garden that now bears her name is only an S-Bahn railway station away.
