Loyal customer
A large number of the books in Schmidt’s Langenhorn home come from here. Before the traditional shop begins to specialize in travel literature and maps, it also sells fiction and non-fiction books. The owner sometimes sells the young Schmidt expensive specialist texts for his economics studies at discounted prices. In return, Schmidt remains a loyal customer for a lifetime: he enjoys browsing through the new releases himself, or he sends someone from his office to make the purchases. And another event links Schmidt and »Dr. Götze«: during the Hamburg floods in mid-February 1962, the shop supplies urgently needed maps. The disaster task force, led by Police Senator Schmidt, uses them to plan its rescue missions.
